Snowmass and Aspen News & Events update

There’s no place like Snowmass on Mardi Gras.  Bourbon Street is a lot dirtier, for one; and where else can you ski fresh powder and celebrate with a plethora of beads and beer specials, into the night and right off the slopes?  Only in Snowmass.  And the good thing about being in Snowmass for Fat Tuesday is that the celebration never seems to end.  Over 10 inches of new snow in the last 48 hours means plenty of it left to plunder at Snowmass, all week long.  Next up, Big Air Friday.  For  complete apres and ski day highlights, www.snowmassvillage.com.

Aspen Music Festival presents Beethoven, Schumann, Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky, as performed by Yefim Bronfman on Piano. World-class classical music in the mountains – our mountains – is a seasonal highlight. The acoustics of Harris Concert Hall turn quieter music into surround sound magic. There’s quite a crew headed north for the Olympic Games, and the Roaring Fork Valley is most certainly representing!  Congrats to Jeremy Abbott of Aspen, in figure skating and Simi Hamilton of Aspen, in nordic skiing.  Alice McKennis of Glenwood Springs and Jake Zamansky of Aspen both take their turns in alpine skiing and Casey Puckett of Old Snowmass, competing in skiercross.  Chris Klug of Aspen, heading into snowboard parallel giant slalom and Gretchen Bleiler of Snowmass Village, taking over the snowboard halfpipe.
