Summary of more Chalet Features:
Summary of location and ski access:
We strongly recommend any level skier, but particularly for Children and Beginner skiers, to access the mountain from the Base Village, which is very conveniently located 2 minutes drive down Wood Road from the Chalet. The ski lifts ‘Village Express’, ‘Elk Camp Gondola’, the ski school, ticket office, shops and restaurants and bars are all located there. “Dial-A-Ride”, is a service operated by taxi for $2 per person. This service will pick you up bring you anywhere within Snowmass. Also, all buses between Snowmass, Aspen/Highlands and Buttermilk are free.
Ski-Out to Adams Avenue for Intermediate level skiers: Put on your skis by the back patio and ski westwards to Adams Avenue ski slope (blue slope), about 400 feet. This route starts pretty flat, then it slopes a little bit, you pass above some townhouses and at the end you have a stretch of upward hiking to get up on the slope. Expect this route to be ungroomed, with soft powder snow, bushes and trees, and slow speed. For the unfit, you may want to catch your breath after the little hike, but it is a good warm up before the chairlift. The fit person will be on the slope in 2-3 minutes and a youth in about 4-5 minutes.
Ski-Out to Assay Hill for Advanced level skiers:
Put your skis on below the driveway and ski down and to the right about 75 feet to Wood Road (turn right/uphill as much as possible before the road, so as to minimize the walk and ski as safely as possible). Cross Wood Rd and walk about 100 feet to Village Run Circle. The ski trail is on the left side of Village Run Cr, before the first house on the left. Take the ski access trail and make a right around the house down along the townhouses to your left. This path is fairly flat in the beginning and mostly has powder snow, but turns into a narrow and fairly steep path through trees – sometimes icy - down to Assay Hill ski slope. Ski at your own risk - go slowly and use Caution! You should be on the slope in about 2-3 minutes without much effort, and expect the paths and trails to be ungroomed.
Ski-In: We strongly recommend any level skier, but particularly the Children, Beginners and Low Level Intermediate skiers, to get back to the Chalet from the Base Village by car. However, there is a path for the Advanced skier from Adams Avenue to the Chalet. Expect ungroomed ski tracks or deep powder, and ski through some trees and bushes. The advanced skier will make it to the Chalet in a couple of minutes. Directions: Take Adams Avenue, just before Edgewood Lane bridge turn right and follow the marked, narrow and deep powder or sometimes icy path down through the trees to Edgewood Lane, traverse or walk the street up to Wood Rd, where you make a left and ski down to Kalkhovia Lane ending up in front of the neighbor house. From there you either walk down to the Chalet or ski carefully if the road is snow covered, but be sure to stop before the Chalet bridge which is heated. Both Edgewood Lane and Kalkhovia Lane are often covered by snow which makes this easier.
