Aspen Snowmass consists of four different ski mountains. While each is amazing in its own regard, Snowmass has the most to offer in terms of ski terrain, family-friendly amenities, and outdoor fun for the kids. With outdoor winter activities for kids in Snowmass all over the place, picking the best ones can sometimes be a challenge.

Use this list to steer you in the direction of the best outdoor activities for kids in Snowmass this winter.

VIK (Very Important Kid) Snowmass S’Mores
The Snowmass VIK program is designed to put a smile on the face of every child that visits Snowmass during the winter months. It packs each week of the winter full of fun events and activities for kids and their families. Check the schedule to find out when you can treat yours to free hot chocolate, storytime with Snowmass heroes, cookie decorating, wildlife presentations, and more. The Snowmass S’mores activity outside in the Snowmass Base Village and in the Snowmass Mall is not to be missed.

Breathtaker Alpine Coaster & Tubing
Even if your kids aren’t skiing or snowboarding, there is still plenty of fun to be had on Snowmass mountain in the winter. Kids and adults alike can’t get enough of the thrills that come from the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster and the exhilarating Snow Tubing hill

ACES Naturalist Ski & Snowshoe Tours
Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, a.k.a. ACES, takes kiddos out into the snowy wilderness on Naturalist Tours where they learn about the mountain ecosystem and all the exciting organisms that inhabit it. This activity is the perfect combination of education and adventure. Tours depart from the Wapiti Wildlife Center at the top of the Elk Camp Lift, which is worth a visit in itself.

Snowmass Village Recreation Center
The Snowmass Village Rec Center is a blast for kids and adults alike. The four outdoor saline pools are complete with fun water features and a water slide. After a swim, let the kids test their nerve on the climbing wall or their strength in the bouldering cave inside. The Rec Center is great for those days when the kids have some energy to burn, but they don’t want to hit the slopes.

Cross Country Skiing
Treat the kids to a different type of skiing experience at the Snowmass Cross Country Center. If they are old enough to ski themselves you can rent classic cross country skis, skate skis or snowshoes and explore scenic cross country trails and views of the Elk Mountains with them. If they aren’t old enough to ski, you can rent a sled and pull them behind you while they are bundled up in toasty comfort.

Ullr Nights
Jump on the Gondola and head up to Elk Camp to celebrate the Norse god of winter named Ullr. During Ullr Nights there are tons of fun outdoor activities like sledding, snowshoeing, snow biking, s’more roasting and more. Combine that with some live entertainment and the ability to go inside and warm up when you need to and you have a recipe for an amazing evening.
