The month of August in Aspen and Snowmass is a busy and fun-filled one, as locals and vacationers make the most of the final days of summer. This year, signature Aspen Snowmass events return once again, starting with the USA Pro Challenge professional bike race. A family-friendly event, Chalk It Up, plasters visual masterpieces onto the Snowmass Village Mall sidewalks mid-August, and at the end of the month is the popular Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Festival. On the heels of the 100th Tour de France, the USA Pro Challenge rolls into Colorado for one week in mid-August, with two stages in Aspen and Snowmass this year. The first stage of the USA Pro Challenge 2013, on Monday, August 19, is a circuit race from downtown Aspen to Snowmass Village and back. The circuit race will comprise three laps, so the crowds will have more than one opportunity to cheer on the professional cyclists. Stage two of the USA Pro Challenge is a route from Aspen to Breckenridge with a climb over Independence Pass. Spectators can head out early before the the start of the second stage on Tuesday, August 20 to find a prime viewing and cheering spot along Highway 82 and Independence Pass. Always a fun Snowmass event, Chalk It Up welcomes anyone with a creative penchant to showcase it on a stretch of sidewalk in the Snowmass Village Mall and Base Village. The event is free for participants and for spectators, so there is no reason not to secure a piece of sidewalk and give it a shot. There are prizes for first, second, and third places as well as the crowd favorite. This year's Chalk It Up event will be held on Saturday, August 24 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. One of the best ways to wrap up a fun-filled summer is at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Festival. Headlining this year's popular Snowmass music festival are Jason Mraz, Keith Urban, and Journey. Also, festival goers can look forward to performances by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Train, Little Big Town, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Paper Bird. This year's JAS Labor Day Festival 2013 runs from Friday, August 31 – Sunday, September 1. Single day tickets and three-day festival passes are still available.
