Aspen Summer Travel Itineraries

Activities, Vacation Prep

Looking to plan an Aspen getaway this summer? Whether you are looking for the outdoors and adventure or arts, music and fine dining, we have suggestions on how to spend your time here.

Itinerary 1: Aspen Gondola, Yoga & Natural Beauty

Morning:

Find your zen! Beginning in June and running through October, the Aspen Shakti Team hosts yoga atop Aspen Mountain. Take the 15-minute gondola ride up Ajax and to the wedding deck for an experience like no other. This popular program includes an hour of open-air Hatha yoga every weekday from 10:30-11:30 against the view of a lifetime.

Once you have found some inner peace, treat yourself to a grab-and-go lunch at the Sundeck to further immerse yourself in the stunning alpine setting.

Afternoon:

Bring that newfound meditative spirit to John Denver Sanctuary. Take a stroll through the environmentally sound wetlands and enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. With gorgeous flowers, running streams, rocks, and lush green grass, it’s easy to take your time and simply take in the scenery while walking the trails that wind through the grounds.

Evening:

Dinner is one of the many times that Aspen shines because of its amazing dinner scene. If you are looking for a casual restaurant with terrific Mexican fare, then head to Mi Chola. With a cool and funky ambiance that offers traditional and authentic classics, this spot is a great choice to enjoy tacos or even a creative salad while sipping on a delicious margarita.

If you are seeking a truly unique experience that’s more along the lines of fine dining, then Bosq is an absolute must visit. Their creatively crafted tasting menu is developed around local farms and produce. Dishes are imaginative, beautifully plated, and exquisitely paired with unique wines for an experience that is truly representative of Aspen. It’s a memorable way to end your evening.

Itinerary 2: Saturday Market & Maroon Bells

Morning:

Nothing says summer to Aspen locals like the Saturday Market. Beginning in June, the market runs every Saturday from 8:30-2:00 in downtown Aspen.

Stroll through the market to look for Colorado-grown fruits and vegetables, baked goods, meats, and jams. Enjoy crafts from local artisans and pick up lunch or a snack at the food court. The Saturday market is a wonderful way to start the weekend and support local artisans and farms.

Afternoon:

You can’t visit Aspen without making time to see the Maroon Bells. While there are many trail options available if you are feeling up to the challenge, you can also take an easier hike to simply enjoy the majestic view of these stunning peaks.

Maroon Lake Scenic Trail is an easy 1-mile round trip trek that begins at the parking area and runs the circumference of the lake. This is an easy hike to do and very family-friendly for kids. Allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy the alpine scenery, and be sure to dress in layers! Also, bring your sunscreen!

Evening:

After a day on your feet, you deserve to indulge in another of Aspen’s many amazing restaurants for a delicious dinner. Looking to treat yourself? Check out Steakhouse No. 316 for anything from a perfectly seared steak to lobster to pheasant, plus an extensive wine list. If you are looking for more casual fare, Meat & Cheese offers a beautiful spread of artisanal breads, meats, and cheeses with indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. Pay a visit to their farm shop for curated specialty food and housewares for a little something to take with you.

Itinerary 3: Leisurely Morning & Independence Pass

Morning:

Grab pancakes and eggs at Poppycock’s or brunch at Bear Den, then head to the pedestrian mall for a nice stroll in the summer morning air. Check out some of the more unique stores and pick up some memorabilia from your trip.

Afternoon:

Now that the day is heating up, head to Independence Pass. Truly one of the most unique experiences Aspen has to offer, the Grottos is a Independence Pass landmark with a ½ mile walk that offers a stunning and unusual view. The trail wanders past waterfalls, cascades, and towards spectacular ice caves. Be careful on the trail to stay away from the water. You can also continue your drive to the top of Independence Pass for spectacular views.

Evening:

Head to Ajax Tavern for a great casual meal in the thick of the Aspen scene. Choose a seat outside for a beautiful sunset dinner and great people watching, then head to Paradise Bakery for dessert. As you unwind and wrap up your visit, think of all of the amazing experiences you had and any you would like to plan for future visits!
